Employee Luau

It has become a tradition here at Keepsake Quilting to have a summer employee party. Each year we choose a different theme, and come up with related activities and games. This year we had a Hawaiian Luau, and a few of the ladies from the Cutting Room were even creative enough to make ‘grass’ skirts out of fabric strips (our bag ties)!

We grill hot dogs, hamburgers and veggie burgers, and also have a food competition with categories for main dishes and desserts. This year all entries had to be “Hawaiian” dishes. For the main dishes, we had Hawaiian Wings, Hawaiian Chicken Casserole, Ambrosia Salad (Second Place), and Hawaiian White Pizza (First Place). Desserts included Hawaiian Wedding Cake, Hawaiian Sweet Bread, Hawaiian Pineapple Cake, Coconut Chocolate Chip Blondies, The Next Best Thing to Don Ho! (a pudding cake, Second Place), and Pavlova (First Place).

Activities this year included eating (and judging) the entries in the food contest, snow cones, bingo, water balloon volleyball, ladder ball, and a dunk tank. The dunk tank proved to be quite popular, as it was quite warm out. I’m not sure who enjoyed it more; those being dunked, or those of us watching!

Well, your luau looked like fun – next time contact our Hawaii Quilt Guild, hqg.org and we’ll see about getting you some aloha print fabric, Lion Kona coffee and Hawaiian Host Macadamia Nut chocolates! We love to share our aloha!
